Fun, Healthy, and Fast: What's Not to Like about Popcorn

Ahhhh popcorn, its name is synonymous with movies carnivals, butter and just plain unhealthy. However, these little grains are one of natures little health food powerhouses. Sure, commercial popcorn is loaded down with artificial flavorings, salt, and hydrogenated oils, but in their raw natural form popcorn is loaded with with antioxidants, proteins, and fiber. Who knew!

According to a 2012 article in the Guardian "Popcorn has 'more antioxidants than fruit and vegetables' and the gourmet varieties of popcorn, such as the ones we sell at Bazaar Spices, take all of the health benefits up a notch as well as the adding more varieties to the flavor. So next time your craving a snack try making some homemade popcorn. Its easy and it only takes about five to ten minutes.

Step 1, Pour a thin layer of oil in a quart size stove top pot (just enough oil to lightly coat the kernels). Choice of is is your personal preference.

Step 2, Pour a few kernels in the stove top pot, put heat on medium and cover (Important as the kernels will jump and I mean jump out of the pot)

Step 3, Once the first kernels begin popping add the rest of the kernels for your batch and shake pot to coat the kernels

Step 4, Cover with a lid and turn down the heat a bit so a not to burn the kernels shake a pot a couple of times and let the remaining kernels pop about 5 min or so depending on how much you are making.

That's it season with a dash of salt and a little olive oil, and rosemary, basil, and thyme or for those with a sweet tooth try this popcorn recipe.
